A Night at Maple Creek

One night Chris Lea, myself, and Jeff “The Jew” Schanzer decided to record a complete album of off the cuff material just for the “punk” of it. Most of the album consisted of multiple renditions of “ohs” and “woahs,” but surprisingly there were a few worthy cuts. One such song, “Drinking’s What We Do,” eventually found its way onto one of Chris Lea’s albums and I’m proud to say that musically and intellectually it’s the best thing I’ve ever done.

Neon Indian: Psychic Chasms

The space pop phase drenched outfit known as Neon Indian was the yielding result of the collaboration between a Brooklyn based composer and an Austin video-arts producer. Together with both dual complimentary audio and visual elements overlapping one another the group creates a seamlessly euphoric vibe. The music of Neon Indian makes many a nod and bow towards the synth rooted electro of the 1980s, with some songs reflecting the diverse musings of Bill Nelson; while also proving to have a sturdy foundation in the Indie Pop scene of the modern day, ex. Cut Copy. So with retro-relevance perfectly intact (for lack of a better oxymoron), here’s the vid for ‘Terminally Chill.’

Framed By Death

Grupo Fantasma catches hypoxia and cuts a track with some hard panning and high shelf horns. If your MU 4180 professor tells you there’s a big hole in the center of the mix tell ’em to fuck off and get your album nominated by NARAS. Just don’t go slapping “Grammy-Nominated” in front of the band name for the rest of your life.

Artist: Brown Out
Album: Aguilas and Cobras

Three Leaf – Barn Sessions

future farmers of america

Two weeks ago Three Leaf began official work on their second album. They say you have your whole life to write your first album and a year and a half to write your second. Well that year and a half has expired but what hasn’t is the chance to make a great record. The guys rented out a barn in Martindale, TX — 1 week for 200 bucks. A few bottles of Knob Creek later and they had nearly half their album.  Here’s a few rough cuts right off the horses hind:
