RIP Touchdown Jesus

Two days ago the infamous King of Kings statue on the east side of I-75 in Monroe, Ohio was struck by lightening and destroyed. Here’s a few Son of God inspired tracks for the occasion.

“Jesus Drives A Trans Am” – Roy

“Jesus Gonna Be Here” – Tom Waits

“Jesus Christ” – Bob Dylan . . . This is from a legitimate bootleg titled the “Minnesota Tapes” from 1960. It’s a cover of a Woody Guthrie tune

“Plastic Jesus” – The Flaming Lips . . . Coyne covers a 1957 folk song

and finally “Big Butter Jesus” by Heywood Banks, inspired by the statue.

amen.

  1. Never heard of Roy but it’s good stuff and what’s with that laugh track on Big Butter Jesus? These idiots just can’t hold it in. I think I’ll drink a Smirnof Ice to honor the striking of “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Jesus… Spread” even though no one batted an eye when Encroachment Jesus went down in Hoboken, NJ.
